Cory Brothers sail to Cardiff Waterside

The shipping and logistics company take 965 sq ft at Two Caspian Point, which forms part of Aviva Investor’s property portfolio.

The firm have relocated from Alexandra Docks in Newport, joining existing tenants KPMG, M&A Solicitors, Energy Saving Trust and Gambit Corporate Finance at the Cardiff Bay development.

The six employees have relocated to the new waterfront HQ, taking the company full circle from its origins in the Cory Chambers on Bute Street 169 years ago.

Mark Sutton, Knight Frank, Mark Cooke, Cory Brothers and Ben Bolton, Cooke & Arkwright sail into Caspian Point at Cardiff Waterside

In 1842 the ship-broking and coal exporting business of Richard Cory & Sons was established in Cardiff Docks to serve the Welsh valleys by Richard Cory. His two eldest sons, Richard and John, joined the company and afterwards succeeded in the business as John & Richard Cory.

Over the following century, Cory owned land and mineral rights across the UK and had interests in oil terminals, fuel, engineering and chemical industries.

Today the Cory Brothers name and reputation is known and respected in the shipping and transport industry across the world, with bases across the UK and in Singapore.

Since July 2003 Cory Brothers has been owned by Braemar Shipping Services plc, which provides ship-broking, technical, environment and logistics services.  The company also supplies to international ship owners and charterers in the sale and purchase, tanker, LNG/LPG, offshore, container and dry bulk markets.

Mark Cooke, Director, Cory Brothers quoted: “Wales has always been at the heart of our business and the opening of our showcase office in Cardiff further supports our continued commitment to the both the region and local business.”

Mark Sutton, Knight Frank, joint agent for the scheme said: “It’s a great story for a company such as Cory Brothers to come back home to the Bay.  Their business was built on the success of Cardiff Docks and their desire to return is evidence that Cardiff Waterside is helping the capital’s waterfront reclaim its position as the region’s economic powerhouse.”

Ben Bolton, Cooke and Arkwright, joint agent for the scheme said: “Businesses are choosing to locate at Cardiff Waterside for more than historic reasons.  The excellent public transport links, proximity to Mermaid Quay and quality and flexibility of space is attracting lots of interest.  We understand how the local property market has developed and are now offering smaller suites from 1000 sq ft upwards.  We have a range of solutions in prestigious buildings to accommodate the needs of organisations across the region who want to make a statement.”

Cardiff Waterside currently has space to let buildings including 3 Assembly Square, Caspian Point and Discovery House from 1,000 sq ft suites.

Cardiff Waterside comprises 550,000 sq ft of contemporary office space encompassed in a selection of eight flexible offices at the cutting edge of design including 3 Assembly Square.    Planning consent has been granted for further 500,000 sq ft.

Knight Frank and Cooke and Arkwright are joint agents for Cardiff Waterside.
