South Wales accountancy firm boosts numbers to invest in future
Alison Cooper and Sarah Schmidt, both from Newport, have joined the firm as business advisory manager and business advisory graduate trainee respectively. Their appointments are part of a successful 18 months that has seen the firm boost its turnover to £2 million, allowing it to invest in staff and training.

Alison, 28, previously worked at an accountancy practice in Stanstead, starting in the business advisory department. Her role at UHY Peacheys provides vital support in the managing and maintaining of clients’ financial records, ensuring they are compliant and their accounts run efficiently.
Alison said: “I applied for a vacancy at UHY Peacheys after visiting the company’s website and seeing that it was a vibrant, dynamic company that puts good client relationships at the heart of everything it does. Business advisory services has huge potential for growth as it’s a function that many companies don’t have the time or expertise to handle in-house. I will contribute to developing the client base and helping existing clients become more profitable.”
Sarah Schmidt, the firm’s new business advisory graduate trainee will provide a supporting role to the department’s managers and will gain practical experience from preparing client accounts. The 26-year-old achieved a degree in accountancy and finance at the University of Aberystwyth and is currently working towards her Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) qualification.
Sarah said: “Accountancy traineeships are very sought-after, so I was delighted to receive a place at a respected and well-known firm. I was attracted to UHY Peacheys when I discovered it had a strong track-record in Investing in People (IIP) and a diverse client base. I will hopefully gain exposure to a wide range of clients that will benefit my development and allow me to specialise in the future.”
UHY Peacheys employs over 40 people at its Newport and Abergavenny offices. It has retained IIP status for over ten years.
Paul Byett, managing partner at UHY Peacheys: “Alison and Sarah are welcome additions to our growing team and I’m confident they will make a positive contribution to our vision to become the accountancy firm of choice in south Wales.
“At UHY Peacheys we truly understand the value of investing in our staff, providing training and recruiting new talent, so our clients benefit from a range of skills and resource.”
