Bristol City Players Support Call for Foster Carers
A group of local foster carers has teamed up with Bristol City Football Club to release 200 balloons from the Ashton Gate stadium to mark the urgent need for more foster carers in Bristol and the surrounding areas.
The balloons were released by Kalifa Cisse and Damion Stewart in a bid to encourage people in Bristol to consider fostering as a viable career option.

South West based independent fostering agency, Pathway Care, says there is currently a shortage of 8,200 foster carers in England and 600 in the South West alone.
The balloon release and partnership with Bristol City FC marks the launch of a year-long marketing drive by Pathway Care under the banner of “Love to Make a Difference”. The campaign will drive home the need for more carers as well as highlighting the career opportunities presented by fostering, along with excellent remuneration and expenses.
David Lloyd, head of community development said: “Pathway Care’s campaign is a great cause and we are only too happy to support their bid to increase the levels of foster carers in Bristol. We’d encourage all our supporters to consider if they or anyone within their network of friends and relatives could foster.”
Pathway Care has a planned programme of events for 2011 to enable anyone interested to find out more about fostering and to encourage the spread the message about the desperate need for foster carers in Bristol.
Christine Darlison from Pathway Care’s Bristol office said: “We are extremely grateful to Bristol City Football Club for supporting our Love to Make a Difference campaign. We hope that the balloons will be a poignant marker of the challenges we face in recruiting foster carers in the Bristol area.
“Foster carers come from all cultures, backgrounds and include couples with or without children, single people, divorced people and lone parents and we’re interested to hear from anyone that has a spare room and can make a real difference to a child’s life.”
Pathway Care is offering a prize to the person that finds the balloon that has travelled the furthest from the Ashton Gate football stadium. If you find a Pathway Care, Love to Make a Difference branded balloon, enter your details and the balloon number at www.pathwaycare.com.
