                        Green Valentine’s Day

You can show your loved one and the planet that you care – by having a green Valentine’s Day. Save money and carbon by taking the Energy Saving Trusts top tips:

Top tips for a green Valentine's Day

                        Turn off to turn on..

                        1. Smooch by candlelight –Switch off those lights, light some candles and create a romantic ambient evening.
                        2. Snuggle under the duvet - turn down the thermostat and curl up to watch a romantic film with a loved one.
                        1. Share a bath or shower. There's nothing like getting into hot water with someone to kick off a romantic evening. If every couple in the UK shared their showers on Valentine's Day they could save a collective 160 million litres of water. And by using less hot water you'll be saving energy too.

                        Homemade love

                        1. Make your own card –Buy recycled paper or sort through old cards to create a personal one of a kind card. The extra effort shows you really care about your Valentine - and the environment.
                        2. Homemade treats – Don’t buy cakes or cookies – make them!
                        3. Rather than go out – purchase locally sourced food and make an evening by cooking together

                        Let your love grow

                        1. Flowers – Opt for a potted plant or an organic, local bouquet of flowers.
                        2. Plant a green gift - create a lasting symbol of your relationship by planting a rose bush or a crab apple tree (also called the "tree of love").

                        Free your love

                        1. Take a walk in the moonlight with your Valentine in a local park or at the beach - low cost, low carbon and it'll get you in the mood for love. If every couple in the UK went for a romantic stroll this Valentine's Day rather than going for a drive, they would collectively save nearly £4 million and 7,800 tonnes of CO2.
                        1. Talk to each other - sometimes a simple "I love you" is better than any gift or evening out.
