“Baby, it’s cold outside- heat up your home with insulation” says Tom Jones-alike

The Energy Saving Trust recommends it and Barack Obama has called it ‘sexy’- but the American President is not the only famous face who thinks insulation is hot.

A little closer to the ’green, green grass of home’, it seems a well-known Welsh celebrity is helping to make us love lagging.

With Wales in the midst of another cold winter, keeping warm by turning up the thermostat or stoking the fire can damage both your energy use and pocket.

But someone looking just like Welsh warbler Tom Jones has recently been spotted roaming the streets with one of the hottest accessories of 2011; a roll of insulation.

The Pontypridd pop icon could save approximately £145 per year in energy bills thanks to his insulation, meaning he has more cash to spend on keeping his tan topped up. Home insulation is one of the most effective and simple ways to keep warm and save energy and money on bills.

In Wales, cavity wall or loft insulation can cost as little as £99 and the work can be carried out in less than a day.  This simple yet effective process can benefit not just the home owner but the environment. Research shows that if everyone in the UK topped up their loft insulation to 270mm, around £520m would be saved on energy bills each year.

Tom Jones look-alike Ian Anthony said: “Insulation may not be the sexiest thing in the world but the results it can bring really are fantastic.

“Insulation doesn’t cost very much but it can save us money and keep us warm.  As temperatures drop its important we insulate.  I’m sure the real Tom thinks it’s pretty sexy too!”

Speaking of the importance of insulation Helen Northmore, head of Energy Saving Trust Wales said: “In an un-insulated home, a third of all the heat is lost through the walls. Installing cavity insulation is just one way to conserve energy.”

Helen added: “There are many other ways of reducing your carbon footprint - and your bills. For example a hot water tank jacket (which keeps your water hotter for longer) costs just £10 to £15 and has an annual saving of around £35. Even switching your TV off standby can save you energy and money.”
