North Wales College Scoops Top Welsh Quality Award

Deeside College was named the overall winner at a special ceremony at Cardiff’s City Hall on December 2nd 2010.

Deeside College is a large further education college based in North East Wales which following recent mergers includes as part of the group, Coleg Llysfasi, Northop College, Wrexham Training and Deeside College.  The college has more than 25,000 learners on full and part-time courses across its sites, employer premises and community venues.

David Jones, principal at Deeside College, said: “We are delighted to have won the prestigious accolade of the Wales Quality Award.

“As a college we strive for excellence in all that we do to ensure we provide outstanding learning opportunities for all.

“The award is a testament to the hard work and dedication of over 1000 staff across our sites. Winning was amazing considering the calibre of the other nominees and Wales can truly be proud of the continued drive for excellence demonstrated by the schools, colleges, public organisations and businesses represented at this year’s Wales Quality and Innovation Awards.”

Run by the Wales Quality Centre (WQC) the Awards are based on the internationally respected European Foundation for Quality Management (EFQM) Excellence Model, one of the world’s most rigorous frameworks for measuring the quality of an organisation’s operations.

To be considered for a Quality Award an organisation has every aspect of its operations subjected to in-depth scrutiny by a team of industry experts.

WQC chief executive David Phillips said: “The Wales Quality Award is a rigorous assessment of a business or an organisations’ fundamental health and recognises businesses that are committed to improvement and excellence.

“All entrants benefit from taking part, and the entry process encourages businesses to review and question the way they deliver services and to design an improvement process to take forward. The Award is a strong indicator of what an organisation is likely to achieve in future and not just what has been achieved so far.”
