Bait has S4C hooked on Stwnsh brand

Welsh broadcaster S4C, in association with Boomerang, has commissioned motion graphics studio Bait to brand its new children’s service Stwnsh.

Launched in May, Stwnsh is targeted at 7-13 year olds and is the second stage of S4C’s strategy to expand and strengthen its service for children of all ages. The latest collaboration between Cardiff-based Bait and S4C follows the recent re-brand of pre-school service Cyw.

The new Stwnsh identity features a series of characters on a contrasting palette combining with different objects in an unpredictable and exciting way to produce a series of unexpected outcomes.

Highlights include hair clips and chip forks causing cars to explode, hair dryers blowing up and flowing milk solidifying in mid-air.

Commenting on the branding, Paul Nicholas Creative Director of Bait said: “Stwnsh means ‘mash-up’ in English so we wanted an identity characterised by unlikely combinations.  We worked with items and images which don’t traditionally fit together to create a totally unexpected outcome to provoke and engage the viewers.

“It was important to create something which would be visually exciting to help us connect with the target age range whilst also maintaining the overall visual quality of the S4C channel identity, and this has certainly been realised.”

Managing Director of Bait Owain Elidir added: “The work with S4C comes at the end of a very exciting time for us having worked closely with MTV on idents for their channel MTV Shows and with Super Furry Animal frontman Gruff Rhys on vfx for his feature film ‘Seperado!’.

"The company is growing within the motion graphics market and we look forward to working on equally creatively challenging projects from across the UK in the future.”
