South Wales employers urged to smell the coffee and invest in an apprentice
A Cardiff training company is holding a breakfast networking event to encourage local employers to consider offering young people apprenticeships.
ACT Skills Academy, based on Hadfield Road, is inviting south Wales business people to its ‘Wake Up to Youth Apprenticeships’ on Thursday April 29 from 8am to 9.30am.
The purpose of the event is to highlight the benefits of apprenticeships for employers. According to figures released by the Welsh Assembly Government, more than two-thirds of young people who undertake apprenticeships follow through to successful careers with their employers.
ACT will also promote the advantages of the Young Recruits Programme which offers employers extra incentives to recruit and train would-be workers. The programme provides a wage subsidy and targets youngsters aged 16-24.
Andrew Cooksley, managing director of ACT, which is Wales’ largest work-based learning provider and which has centres in Cardiff, Bridgend and Caerphilly, said:
“The benefits of taking on an apprentice to employers are immense, and we want them to come to our centre on Thursday and find out for themselves exactly how some of the best talent around could really boost their businesses.”
