Cardiff company gets mobile for charity

Staff at a Cardiff business communications solutions company are swapping their work suits for their running kit by taking part in the Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile.

17 staff at the Word will be taking part in all three events ranging between one and six miles on Sunday 21st March to raise money for the charity linked to Comic Relief, which aims to help turnaround the lives of disadvantaged people in the UK and some of the world’s poorest countries. Previous projects helped through Sport Relief in Wales include Safer Wales, Cardiff Mind and MEWN Cymru.

Members of staff have been taking advantage of their lunch breaks to train for the run, with healthy competition within the company to achieve the fastest times.

As well as raising money for the charity through the sponsored run, the company will also match the sponsorship money raised.

Managing director at the Word, Huw Stiley, said: “We were really keen to get involved with helping Sport Relief, it’s a great charity that goes towards helping our local community and it has provided a great opportunity for team bonding within the company.

“We have already reached our £1,000 target which is really keeping us motivated and has made us determined to raise more money for the cause. As a company we see ourselves as being in a privileged position, especially in the current economic climate, and we feel it’s important to help those not as fortunate as ourselves.”
