Plaid Cymru Councillor Neil McEvoy visited outsourcer Conduit's Cardiff Gate operation yesterday (Monday 22 February 2010) to see the secret to the success of a business which has thrived against the gloomy economic backdrop.

Conduit counts Vodafone and Sky among its clients and employs 2000 people in Cardiff and 2500 across south Wales.  Last November, the business announced its intention to double its workforce in the next two years, having already recruited around 1000 workers in the past 18 months.

Sales director Stuart Staples, who accompanied Mr McEvoy on his tour said:

"The latest job creation is testament to the quality of our people and the service they provide.   Thanks to the skilled labour pool in south Wales we're able to recruit the best staff who can deliver the best results for our clients.

"We invest heavily in developing staff skills, business analysis, process improvement and reliable and innovative technology to help us ensure that we deliver a consistently high quality, client-focused service.

"Cardiff Council has helped us to achieve this by providing support to help realise the potential of the Cardiff Gate site.

"We are delighted to be able to provide high quality jobs to Cardiff and the local area, at a time when many employers are struggling to survive, let alone expand."

Councillor McEvoy, who spent time talking to team members and praising their hard work and the role it played in the job creation said:

"It is really encouraging to see such a high quality operation playing a central role in securing jobs for Cardiff and South Wales; jobs which are extremely vital as the economy starts tentative recovery.

"Employers like Conduit help position Cardiff as a prime business location, with the skill set to match the requirements of such major contracts.

"I have been really impressed with the quality of the workers and facilities here at the Cardiff Gate site, which the council is pleased to have been able to support."
