South Wales accountancy firm presents a little bit of happiness to sick children this Christmas

A group of Gwent business people helped put smiles on sick children's faces this Christmas by gift giving at the local hospital.

Paul Byett of UHY Peacheys, Jonathan Collingbourne of Newport Auctions, Darren Stockton of Cambrian Fuel and Tony Curtis of Bluewater Spas were among many who donned Santa and TV character costumes and gave presents to youngsters at the Royal Gwent Hospital. Many of the youngsters they met will be spending the festive period away from their families in the children's ward.

The present giving was organised by children's cancer charity LATCH's business committee.

Gifts were donated by various companies including members of the South Wales Chamber of Commerce, Hasbro and Staples. Waitrose donated mince pies.

Paul Byett, managing partner at South Wales accountancy firm UHY Peacheys, and who dressed up as a teddy bear for the event, said: "The annual present giving at the children's ward is one of my favourite events in the calendar, because of the sheer joy it brings to the children. Many of the young people we met won't be at home to enjoy Christmas with their families this year, so it was a humbling experience to give these incredibly brave children a little bit of happiness."

UHY Peacheys has been supporting LATCH for two years. During 2009, the company has put on a number of events in support of the charity, including a family fun day.

This Christmas, the LATCH business committee has also visited Ty Hafan, Velindre Hospital, the LATCH wards at the University Hospital of Wales, St Joseph's, St Anne's and St David's Hospital.
