Scrum Sport Launched to Help Welsh Businesses Stay At The Top Of Their Game

One of Newport's most famous rugby faces has launched an innovative new company to develop links between sport and Welsh business.

Former Newport Gwent Dragons player Adam Black is the mastermind behind Scrum Sport, an organisation that will act as a facilitator between professional Welsh sports personalities and businesses or organisations looking to use famous faces to raise the profile of their business.

The company has also appointed respected business consultant Janet Harris as sales director to focus on building links with corporate organisations across south Wales.

Scrum Sport is affiliated with some of the top names in Welsh rugby from 2009 IRB Player Of The Year Shane Williams to James Hook, Colin Charvis, Ian Gough and WRU kicking coach Neil Jenkins.

Adam Black, who was the first player in the Celtic League to rack up 100 appearances during his time with Newport Gwent Dragons and now plays for Worcester Warriors in the Guinness Premiership, said: "Wales is a rugby-mad nation and people feel passionate about their sport. It's been proven many times that sport and players in particular are an effective motivational tool so it makes sense to utilise this within a business environment.

"As a rugby player myself I'm only too aware of how our already short professional careers can be cut even shorter through injury so it's great to be able to promote the idea of getting involved in personal appearances and speaker opportunities to players from an early stage in their careers so that they can continue this after they retire from professional sport."

Sales director Janet Harris has extensive experience of working in sports management having previously been commercial manager of the Newport Gwent Dragons and PR facilitator for Mike Ruddock during his time as Wales rugby coach. She is currently an independent business consultant to the South Wales Chamber and will use her business contacts to promote the concept of sports marketing through Scrum Sport.

Janet said: "I'm looking forward to getting the Scrum Sport name out there and helping businesses in south Wales realise how professional sports players can benefit their organisation. I've seen for myself just how inspirational professional sports players can be and am confident that we can work with businesses to bolster their marketing strategies and team-building and motivational efforts."

Scrum Sport has already secured its first booking for Shane Williams at the City of Newport Business Club in September when he'll be speaking to a group of business people about his experiences playing for Wales and answering questions from the floor.

Players can be booked via the company's website http://www.scrumsport.co.uk/  or on 07852 563 294.
