SCS Group wins £340k Wembley City contract

The SCS Group, one of the UK's leading providers of ventilation and building management systems and smoke control solutions, has been awarded a £340k contract for work on the new Wembley City development.

Wembley City is a high profile 85-acre development of land surrounding the iconic Wembley Stadium, and is designed to create a vibrant residential and entertainment quarter. The project, which is being built by leading developer Quintain Estates Developments, aims to transform the area into one of the capital's brightest and most exciting addresses.

As part of its contract SCS Group, which has headquarters in Cardiff and a state-of-the-art production facility in Dorset, will provide 15 mechanical smoke control shafts serving one residential block with four cores containing 234 apartments.

The Group will provide six jet fans and two main extract fans for an underground car park serving the apartments, and is also providing control and automation panels that will operate the mechanical shafts and jet fans.

Ben Graves, SCS Group project engineer, said:

"Wembley City is one of the UK's most important developments and we're delighted to be a part of it. Our expertise as an end-to-end ventilation and fire control solutions provider means we're effectively a one stop shop.

"We're providing ventilation, smoke control and control and automation solutions including carrying out computational fluid dynamics (CFD) modelling. The CFD modelling allows us to analyse the movement of heat and smoke, display this on a computer and demonstrate how our solutions combat both. By using mechanical shafts we've been able to help the property developers Quintain, and John Sisk and Son to maximise space in each apartment leaving more room for residential living space and making the apartments more attractive to potential buyers," he added.

The SCS Group has built-up a strong working relationship over several years with leading mechanical and electrical contractor Briggs & Forrester (MEP) Ltd based in Northampton, who awarded them the contract.

Brian Goodenough, of Briggs & Forrester, said:

"This is a major project that will transform the Wembley area. It's vital that all elements of the project are delivered to the highest standards and we selected SCS due to their proven track record with us on other important projects."

Wembley City developers Quintain say it is set to become one of London's major new destination locations. In future it will boast the only designer outlet superstore within the M25 as well as one of the UK's largest cinema complexes, benefiting from shops and restaurants, and a Hilton International hotel with its own business centre.
